What sets it apart
One centimetre thinner
The body is one centimetre shallower than the historic model’s. On a mahogany body, a centimetre is several hundred grams, and you feel them on your shoulder by the second set. It takes weight off without changing the response: that is why the measurement is what it is and not something else.
Twenty-two frets, and they are the right ones
On this shape there is no twenty-fourth fret, and that is not a sacrifice: the neck pickup stays where it has always been, under the twelfth-fret harmonic, which is where the sound this school is chosen for comes from. Moving it to make room for two frets almost nobody uses would be paying a lot to get very little.
Chambered mahogany under the carved top
The mahogany is not solid through: it is lightened from the inside. And the top is carved rather than glued on flat — the curve is not decoration, it is wood taken away by hand where the arm rests. What comes out inside does not change the response, and the reason is the wood: on mahogany of this grade you can take away mass without taking away the note.
The whole of it
Acheron, headstock to bridge.
